I have XP-PRO with Office 2000, and I had the same problem. But XP made it very easy to disengage the unwanted stuff from the start-up command. I just made sure that I had the QUICK LAUNCH area enabled on my taskbar. From there, I just right clicked on the off... Login to read more.
