Sounds like a possible FAT problem. If the FAT is affected by a bad sector...Just a guess.

Can you run Scandisk from a Dos boot-up?

Also, many people say to tell Windows to only use about double your physical ram MB's as Virtual memory, though I can't see ... Login to read more.
