Diesel Talk: Duramax L5P Introduction - Live &
Interactive Webinar Course
The Duramax V8 6600 latest model, the L5P, is the newest
diesel engine offered by General Motors. The V8 diesel found
in the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra provides 445
horsepower and 910-foot pounds of torque.
The engine is equipped with a new Denso common rail system.
There are significant differences between the earlier model
LML and the L5P. Fuel control starts with the low-pressure
system equipped with a fuel pump driver module that is part
of the CAN network. System charging is enhanced using the
Body Control Module (BCM) to control system voltage and use
of a current sensor. The aftertreatment is installed at the
outlet of the turbocharger. The DEF reductant injector
continues to provide the fluid needed in the exhaust to
reduce NOX emissions. Service of this system is of concern.
Turbocharger has been changed with enhanced actuator vane
control. Engine mechanical between the LML and the L5P are
similar with service procedures changed.
This 1.5 hour webinar will provide the attendee information
on the Duramax L5P and subsystems and how it compares to
early LML systems. There will be discussion on the L5D found
on medium duty trucks and International applications. This
information will include new diagnostic strategies and use
of the scan tool. Service information discussion will cover
typical Diagnostic Trouble Codes and service procedures.
Webinar Course Objective: Given the web presentation on the
Duramax L5P platform, the attendee will have a general
understanding of new service and diagnostic procedures of
this vehicle.
