ATG Schedule of Classes for January 2017
Posted to Industry Events Forum on 12/27/2016
Greetings, everyone!
The Automotive Training Group (ATG) has the following
classes available for the month of January 2017. All classes
run from 6:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. each night for both nights,
except where indicated.
CUMMINS COMMON RAIL DIESEL & DURAMAX LML/LGH
DIESEL: Diesel engines are very simple -- just
compress some air and fuel and you get combustion. But with
the advent of common rail fuel pressurization and delivery
symptoms, diagnosis and repair became a complicated and
time-consuming game. Add variable vane turbochargers,
feedback EGR systems, and exhaust aftertreatment systems
like Diesel Particulate Filters, Selective Catalyst
Reduction, and Diesel Exhaust Fluid injection, and it's hard
to know where to start. Other published Cummins and Duramax
repair information is inconsistent, and many of the flow
charts run you in circles performing tests that would take
days. In contrast, our approach looks for high-level
indicators to make a better possible-cause list, and then
offers multiple simple tests to trim that list as fast as
possible without taking too much apart. Cummins and Duramax
are each comprehensively covered in separate sections,
including special tools, workarounds, unused Scan Tool
functions, and other great shortcuts. From a simple
high-level pass to system-specific tips, this seminar covers
the entire diagnostic process. We have included dozens of
real world examples to prove that these strategies will find
the root cause of your code or symptom in the shortest
amount of time.
*January 4th & 5th: Bakersfield, CA
*January 4th & 5th: Davie, FL
*January 4th & 5th: Odessa, TX

p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each evening.***

6.0L, 6.4L & 6.7L POWERSTROKE ENGINE
PERFORMANCE: ATG's Engine Performance Training
series helps you choose the best tests that get you the most
information with the least effort. These strategies are even
more critical on Powerstroke engines because they are so
time consuming to work on. This seminar contains
field-tested diagnostic & repair strategies that actually
work, and includes tips and tricks developed in shops across
the nation. Come for some great shortcuts & homemade tools
to quickly isolate faults that can take hours more to find
using conventional diagnostics.
*January 4th & 5th: Las Vegas, NV
EVAPORATIVE EMISSIONS SYSTEMS: OEM
flowcharts routinely make EVAP system diagnostics too
complicated. Despite the wide variety of systems out there,
our research has revealed that a layered approach is much
faster than the linear OEM approach, leading to a profitable
diagnosis without the wasted (and unbillable) diagnostic
time or multiple trips for your customer. This is the 2nd
subject in our Import Series, but also comes with a thick
Domestic section. First, we show you universal techniques
applicable to every system. If no leaks are found, the
procedures become more system-specific, but not yet
manufacturer-specific. All systems fall into one of four
categories and by following our universal procedures, you
can still avoid the technical nonsense that typically
lengthens diagnostic times! Most faults are found using
these first two layers. We have also included manufacturer
and system specific tips and tricks for those cases where
you'll need to go that deep.
*January 9th & 10th: Rohnert Park, CA
*January 11th & 12th: Sacramento, CA
*January 11th & 12th: Holyoke, MA
*January 18th & 19th: Fitchburg, MA
*January 23rd & 24th: Monrovia, CA
*January 25th & 26th: Ashland, MA
*January 30th & 31st: Surrey, British Columbia, CANADA
CUMMINS 5.9L & 6.7L COMMON RAIL DIESEL:
Diesel engines are very simple -- just compress some air and
fuel and you get combustion. But with the advent of common
rail fuel pressurization and delivery systems, diagnosis and
repair became a complicated and time-consuming game. Add
variable vane/nozzle turbochargers, feedback EGR systems,
and exhaust aftertreatment systems like Diesel Particulate
Filters, Selective Catalyst Reduction, and Diesel Exhaust
Fluid injection, and it's hard to know where to start. Other
published Cummins repair information is inconsistent, and
many of the flow charts run you in circles performing tests
that would take days. In contrast, our approach looks for
high-level indicators to make a better possible-cause list,
and then offers multiple simple tests to trim that list as
fast as possible without taking too much apart. Cummins
engine management and emissions systems are each
comprehensively covered, including special tools,
workarounds, unused Scan Tool functions, and other great
shortcuts. From a simple high-level pass to system-specific
tips, this seminar covers the entire diagnostic process. We

in the shortest amount of time.
*January 9th & 10th: Billings, MT
*January 11th & 12th: Bozeman, MT
*January 23rd & 24th: Fairbanks, AK
*January 23rd & 24th: Lubbock, TX
*January 25th & 26th: Abilene, TX
*January 30th & 31st: Concord, CA
*January 30th & 31st: Rochester, NY
*February 1st & 2nd: Hayward, CA
*February 1st & 2nd: Amherst, NY
INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL & DRIVABILITY DIAGNOSTICS
STRATEGIES: ATG training manuals & seminars contain
great strategies for thinking your way through a diagnosis.
However, many diagnostic situations first call for
duplicating the symptom or code, and this can be extremely
frustrating. Well, now there's a seminar just for this
problem! ATG believes that faults are usually present and
measurable even if the symptoms or codes are intermittent,
so we've developed a repeatable strategy for flushing out
these elusive faults. Additionally, we have assembled the
best tools and tests for isolating faults and validating
repairs. Come for some great shortcuts & homemade tools to
quickly isolate faults that can take hours more to find
using conventional diagnostics. This seminar applies to all
manufacturers, so everyone will benefit. Intermittent faults
stretch every technician's skills, so come to this class to
learn how to win against the toughest diagnostic challenges.
*January 23rd & 24th: Toronto, Ontario, CANADA
*January 25th & 26th: Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA
SCAN TOOLS: BEYOND THE FLOWCHART: This
all-new Scan Tool seminar was built using a completely
different approach -- to show the best PIDs, controls and
other Scan Tool functions to use for each diagnosis. We've
reinvented Scan Tool training because button-pushing and
menu navigation don't make you more successful. Rather,
success comes when you know your Scan Tool so well that you
can set the flowchart aside and 'make up' your own
diagnostic path. Not only is this path more accurate -- it's
quite a bit shorter than the flowchart. There are dozens of
examples of this strategy in action, diagnosing the most
common faults. Come to learn these great new techniques for
zeroing right in on a root cause.
