Ron, CAN cars have been out longer than you think. I find more and more cars that I repair require CAN equipped scan tools. Saturn Ion that I repaired last week (Out o'warrenty) comes to mind. Many Euro cars are CAN waaaay before domestic cars. HTH, Stuart Login to read more.
