Hi Tim,

I am not exactly sure what you mean by common. As the links indicate, Deusenberg had them in the 20's. I can safely tell you that Packard went hydraulic in 1932. My 1931 was the last year for mechanical brakes, and those were actually really good for... Login to read more.
