If I remember what I read in the Edmunds article, the CO2 reduction with Ethanol was less than 5 percent in grams per mile.

To help clarify your comment on the Carbon:Hydrogen ratio,

Ethanol: C2H5OH, 2:6

Heptane: C7H16 , 7:16

Octane: C8H18 , 8:18
