Here's a telephone tactic that usually breaks down the "He's in a meeting" or "He's out of the office" lie very quickly. It works for me.

Phone Answerer: "Good morning, Howard Engineering."

Caller (You): "Good morning, may I speak to Mr. John Doe, please."... Login to read more.
