Re: Book Time: Self improvement and efficiency
Thank you Jamey, I appreciate the thoughtful response and giving me your two cents on improving work flow as that is an area that we as a shop can improve on. As a shop this is the first time that we've been flat rate so its a big change for everyone. My owner is a Previous tech who opened up his own shop almost 20 years ago and is very in tune with Diagnostic work. He is very involved in the industry and ultimately he is a trust worthy man who takes care of us (even has a guarantee of 40 hours a week paid even if not met while we continue making this transition.) So far he has held to that. I am absolutely starting to see the importance of a well organized and managed schedule along with a good service writer relationship. I feel this is still something we are trying to work through, though it has been improving with the use of a scheduling board and with us as techs helping write up estimates to make sure that labor is quoted correctly and that parts are correct. I'm definitely striving to succeed as it is a big family here and i want the best for everyone. It seems more conversations will need to be had about what the customer ultimate goal is with each visit and what we can do to meet that as i feel that will help create and hold the expectations for us as technicians.
