This is a teardown of the FWD/AWD 9-speed transmission built by both ZF and Chrysler. The Chrysler version, like the 8-speed, is built under license from ZF in Germany. This transmission is very small; no bigger than a microwave oven.

The geartrain stacked up on the bench is only 8" tall. The transmission, assembled front to back, including the torque converter is only 14". Very compact. This unit is used in both Jeeps and Chrysler products, along with VW/Audi/Porsche.
