If the PCM is not grounding the EPC at all, then a p code should follow. Maybe the 97 model wasn't smart enough to store trans code for BARO/MAP, however, you won't know until you fix the BARO issue first. If that has no success I'd be looking hard at the PCM. Login to read more.
