If 4th was slipping badly, it would just stay in 3rd gear. If 3rd is marginal it might slip and revert to 2nd+ (slightly more than just 2nd gear). I see you replaced the solenoids. Back in the day when we encountered a 3-N, it seemed implausible to be anything... Login to read more.
