I had an almost identical setup(99 suburban, 2400 lb pop-up) and found it towed much nicer out of O/D, but was more my opinion then a tow/trans issue. I think you are right on the border of d-o/d limits, but try both and see. don't think a trans temp sensor wo... Login to read more.
