Ron; Buy a NEW direct clutch apply spring, the big mean one in the drum. Pull the overdrive off, disassemble the direct clutch drum. Compare the new to old. I'd be willing to bet this unit nuked the OD planets at sometime in it's life, and it heats the spring ... Login to read more.
