Renewing dried paper gasket roll material
Posted to Technical Tips Forum on 11/3/2021 25 Replies

Hello IATN members,

I work on a lot of old equipment when not working automotive vehicles so I find myself often making many of the (unavailable) paper gaskets. Of course I use bulk gasket paper roll, and it gets dry and hard to work with after sitting for very long.

What I discovered that works really well is to cut a section that I am going to use to rough size and then spray it with glass cleaner enough to wet both sides. Then I let it sit and dry. From there I make the gaskets using an old one as a template or use a small ball peen hammer to tap the edge waste areas of the gasket to fit the component.
