We use those tools on nearly every wheel bearing we do, and on Subaru's you're talking a bad bearing on about every other one that comes in. Yes, definitely support the suspension with a jack stand, otherwise you will break suspension parts. Don't ask how I know. The backing plate and parking brake will usually come off with the bearing. Support the backing plate and pound the hub out. We've never needed heat to release one yet, but maybe it makes the job easier.
