Clicking in 4WD while going in reverse
Posted to Technical Tips Forum on 2/4/2020 4 Replies

Hey everyone. I just thought this to be helpful and thought I would share. I have the above truck in here. Our customer uses it to haul campers and plow snow from his lot. It has 88k and he just started noticing a clicking noise from the front end while in 4WD going in reverse. I brought it in and put it on a lift. Had my boss run the truck to isolate the noise. At first it was in front diff, but it worked it's way back to the transfer case. After shutting truck off, I grabbed the front driveshaft and found it sticking and clunking. So I got ujoints and was going to order the hyme bearing after I took everything apart, (which I have done on older Ford's with the Cardan U-Joint assembly). To my surprise, you can't buy the hyme bearing or even the yoke from Ford. You need to buy a complete driveshaft from Ford. So I'm hoping this saves you guys an hour of beating your knuckles up to get out u-joints that are not meant to replaced.
