2011 Ford F550, pcm replacement, save the core
Posted to Technical Tips Forum on 10/1/2013 9 Replies

I was called in to program a replacement Ford pcm for this vehicle. The vehicle had 133,000 miles, the fan clutch was locked on high, the transmission would not shift into overdrive. I had the easy job, hook up the ids and program. The programming demanded that the old pcm be on the vehicle to gather information. I tried to program with Tear Tag info, same result. This shop had the foresight to NOT return the pcm core until repair was verified. I connected the old unit and downloaded the required info. I do not know if i could have proceeded without the old unit. Probably best to not return those cores until repair is complete.
