Maybe I'm too young for all this, and I don't work on heavy trucks, but were there radial "tube type" tires? I have only seen tubeless radial tires. AFAIK, radials don't tolerate tubes for the very reasons you stated, tubes squirm too much and get hot. Login to read more.
