Intake Carbon
Posted to Technical Theory Forum on 1/17/2018 11 Replies

New customer and new issue in our shop regarding Diesel with intake carbon build up. BMW dealer diagnosed and we confirmed codes for Swirl Flap actuator, EGR recirc. rate control, EGR gas temp sensor. All related to excessive carbon build up.

This carbon is the soft sticky type and BMW recommends removal with the walnut shell blast method the same as they use on gas engines which seems to be a slow and messy job on the Diesel engines. I have an aqueous hot tank I can soak the intake manifold in and wondering if I could use the same hot detergent in my Hecat AC pulse flusher to clean the lower runners and intake ports. Anyone have experience or other ideas along these lines? Thank You.
