Because a Oxygen sensor measures only oxygen and is not able to tell how much unburned fuel is in the exhaust stream. This is why a mis fire can cause lean codes on the older systems. The O2 sensor is measuring a cylinders worth of oxygen since it was a misfir... Login to read more. ![]()
