Concerning cylinder wash-down, the oil film helps seal. Back in the day on engines with mechanical injection and ignition problems (Alfa, Mercedes, Climax) I have seen the cylinders so washed that the rings would squeal. Took 2 batteries to make them crank but... Login to read more.
