The answer to your question it is due to solid state circuitry. Here's "my" explanation.

A 14 watt bulb consumes 1 amp (14v x 1a = 14w). Two bulbs consume 2 amps, 3 bulbs 3 amps, etc.. There is less amperage flow when one is burned out. I don't think resiste... Login to read more.
