Resistor or not?

Does anyone have a clue why a resistor would be attached to a aftermarket ignition coil? I thought current was only limited to points so they don't burn up?

Anyway the resistor droppes the voltage to 9.8 volts at the coil, and this is an electronic ignition ... Login to read more.
