Two reasons I can think of. Fuel economy and tire sizing. Allowing the rear drivetrain to idle instead of being locked into AWD will increase FE slightly. The tire sizing issue is that if you have a slight variation on rolling distance front to rear it wipes o... Login to read more. ![]()
