Hey John, If the Passat is in an Immobilzer anti-theft mode then you should INITIALLY have spark and fuel pressure. The engine should start, flair-up and then stall out/shut-down within approx 1 second. Also, get the shop or customer to supply you with a spare... Login to read more.
