When HC burns, the hydrogens and carbons are broken off in steps. The carbon goes to CO and then to CO2 if there is enough O2. If there is not any O2, CO2 gives up an oxygen to leave CO and to change more HC to CO. The oxidation potential of 2C + O2 -> 2CO is ... Login to read more. ![]()
