A lead acid battery in series-aiding with alternator. Battery voltage adds to alternator voltage. 14.3 12.5 = 26.8 volts. If I repeated the test in series-opposing, I would have 14.3 - 12.5 = 1.8 volts. Neither voltage is useful.
