Thanks to all who replied,it does look like it would be more time efficient to pull the motor for a headgasket job on this truck.the 20 hrs labor time is accurate.as someone mentioned,the oil pump pickup tube is attached to the front timing cover.

2008 Toyota RAV4 Sport 3.5L Cuts out, Stall, MIL Lamp on VIN: JTMBK32V78
Found 12V positive coming from PCM on the Start Signal circuit at all times. Isolated this circuit by cutting wire near PCM to remove any potential short to power from another circuit. Replaced PCM. Found wiring harness on top of trans chewed through and... Trouble codes: P0617 (Starter Relay Cicuit High).
