| 2005 Ford F-150 XL 4.2L Poor Idle Quality, Hesitation VIN: 1FTRF12295 Hi All, Got this 4.2 V6 with limited power. I can mash throttle from a start and truck will slowly get up to speed, takes about 20 seconds to get to 15 mph. Will get to 85 mph after 90 seconds. | 1989 Ford F-250 XLT Lariat 7.5L Excessive Emissions, Poor Idle Quality, Cuts out, Stall, Misfire, Poor Fuel Economy VIN: 1FTHX25G1K Fixed after 2 days of hair pulling. The Transmission Range selector switch was shorted! As soon as we unplugged the switch the idle smoothed out and injector pulse width went back down to 4 ms. I spent several more hours after posting checking all sensor wires... Trouble codes: 31 (Evp out of range). |

AFTER RECHECKING COMPRESSION, LEAKDOWN, BACK PRESSURE AND SO ON, WE WENT TO A SHOP WITH A BETTER SCOPE AND FOUND THE DWELL TIME ON THE COIL FOR CYLINDERS 3&4(THE SAME SECTION OF COIL) HAD A WEAK PATTERN. Moving the #7 plug to #1 and re buzzing really worked good. I have never done internal repairs on one of these and was very suprized how easy it was to change it. Thanks for all the input ...
