Thanks for all the information. The problem was in the connection on the temp sensor. Intermittantly it was not making contact sending the temp reading to -40. New connector and all is working fine. Waited 2 weeks to post to make sure it's fixed. Trouble codes: P0116 (ECT sensor performance).
