We finally found the engine computer under the windshield fresh air intake panel where it cops a lot of weather and leaves and crap. We cleaned the connector and pins and used dielectric grease. | 2001 Volkswagen Beetle GLS 2.0L Compressor VIN: 3VWCS21C31 Thanks to everyone that responded to this problem. As Brett from Indiana suggested, I raised the idle and sure enough the clutch engaged. With the help of another local repair shop, we reset the base idle and the problem was solved. |
