Started as an Auto Mechanic

Hi All, I have been following with interest the thread (Now hiring all shifts) on the interest in the industry by young students and the responses by educators and techs. I have been beaten up by negative persons on the site sometimes for my enthusiastic support and reporting of the successes of some of my young students in past years. I stand on their success as I do check on them often and they are doing well in this trade. Even if some did start at 15 or so as did I long ago.

In all the bad news of the current economic era I found this article refreshing. I emailed the former auto mechanic, James Hamilton.

Here is the story in Wired Mag: http://www.wired.com/wiredenterprise/2013/02/james-hamilton-amazon/

James replied to the email I sent him about his thoughts on a career start as an auto mechanic. He graciously replied in depth about the positive affects on his life the early learning and experiences as a tech. I will share later.

His story gives hope to those that start at the lube bay or parts puller at the wrecking yard.
