This one day course is designed to update the diesel
technician on the changes made with the newer Duramax
Diesels used on the Silverado, GMC Sierra and the TopKick
and Kodiak GM trucks.
The course will have a brief review of the Duramax Diesel
6.6L, from the LB7 to the LLY and the LBZ. Instruction will
focus on the LMM, LML and the LGH.
The topics that will be covered are:
a. Turbocharger/ Explanation and Diagnosis of the Variable
Nozzle Turbocharger
b. Common Rail Fuel Injection System- Fuel Solenoid common
rail injector and the newer Piezoelectric Common rail
injector. Variations in the systems such as the CP3 and the
CP4 Injection Pump. The addition of the "9th" injector for
Regeneration.
c. DOC/DPF 101- a presentation on the operation of after
treatment systems. Review the operation of the sensors used
and the operation of the Diesel Oxidation Catalysts and the
Diesel Particulate Filter. Regeneration types and techniques
you can use to clean these systems.
d. DEF Fluid 101- another presentation on the operation of
the Urea based system. Explanation and strategies the system
uses to reduce NOX. Diagnosis and repair will be explained.
e. EGR- a review on the operation of the EGR system. Compare
the operation of the early models and view the low pressure
and high pressure EGR used on the newer models. Focus on the
P0101 DTC and is set by the ECM with EGR issues.
f. Engine and Electronics- Demonstrate variances in engine
designs and wiring.
Service Information from GM will be used to demonstrate
information that is available for diagnosing and check-up
date programming information.
Technicians are encouraged to bring a laptop Windows based
to download books and service information.
This is a one day seminar and the instructor, Tony Salas
will be available for questions.
About the instructor:
Tony Salas, a former GM AC Delco instructor has a history
for a logical basic approach to issues with Diesel and
Gasoline vehicles. He currently owns Powertrain Performance
LLC in Las Vegas and provides training under Powertrain
Training. He deals with these vehicles on a daily basis and
instructs with real case studies to help you the technician
with information to aid you in repairing these trucks the
very next day.
