Skills that are desired but not required - you will make more money if you have some of these skills:

+Experience in complete or partial rebuilds of German/British v8/v12 engines

+Experience in automatic transmissions rebuilds ZF, GM etc...

+Strong diagnostics and troubleshooting abilities.

+Able to utilize advance diagnostic techniques such using automotive scopes, engine diagnostics via vacuum.

+Experience with flashing/reading eproms/other chipsets on and off boards, flashing modules etc.

+Shop management experience.
