01 Jetta Mice ate an EVAP line on the tank
Posted to Technical Discussion Forum on 1/14/2014 7 Replies

Came in with P0442 small leak, no liquid fuel leaking, with the Redline smoker and the car up on the lift there is a strong gas smell under the spare tire well. Dropped a shield out of the way and stuffed up the boroscope to see if I could spot any smoke. We found a mouse nest up there, totally inaccessable of course without dropping the tank ( and the entire rear suspension and exhaust....) to see what got chewed. Never saw any smoke (it's an older Redline that we can't put UV fluid in) , but that's where the gas smell is coming from. My question is that if it's the accordion looking tube is it fixable? Can we drop it enough without taking out half the car? Never had to drop one of these before, the tank and filler neck are all one piece. Yikes. And thanx for any advice. PS noticed that the gas cap won't hold any vacuum at all.
