'04 Jeep no crank
Posted to Technical Discussion Forum on 4/23/2013 3 Replies

This is an odd one. I have this grand that has an intermittent no crank. We have seen it several times, mostly after a heat soak. We believe we've narrowed it down to the neutral safety system. Wiggling the transmission range plug wiring showed an intermittent open. We replaced the terminal. We kept the car several days without incident. Today it came back. The customer states she can start the car by pressing the brake pedal. Service writer shows me the car not starting, then presses the brake. Car cranks and starts. I have looked at the schematics for the brake switch (including cruise) and around the pedal and booster. I see no tie in between the brakes and the starting system. This a 545 with the neutral switch in the transmission. Am I overlooking something obvious?
