international/ ford diesel emmissions per incorrect injector
Posted to HD/Fleet Forum on 12/22/2014 9 Replies

please read the entire post , stick with me, it gets kinda sticky!

my fleet has been targeted by carb to put particulate filters on the tailpipe on trucks that never had it. we chose the hug r 20 which is pretty common for this application

the trucks are 2006 intl with dt 466 turbo diesel engines they have the same ecm and ficm as ford turbo 7.3 and 6.0 engines they have the same injectors also as ford trucks

my question is, we have many that keep polluting the filters. keep in mind these filters pass nothing and collect and burn particulates as necessary with heat and time to keep them from plugging. the injectors have been changed many times due usually to high resistance in injector and that is my question no.1

question. is there any way to go into the ecm and pull the original injector codes that were in the engine so we can put the same back in hoping it will reduce the emmissions?

question. back in the day I remember ford saying you can only replace that injector with one of the same code. is that a fair statement? (we have been replacing these with anything our vendor gives us, so they do work, but the original exhaust was a pass through, and would never have a plugging issue)

statement. I have fixed some of our other vehicles with emmissions failures and plugging the filters. usually in mechanical trucks the pumps are over pumping, which doesn't make the truck run any worse, just gets worse mileage and fills the filter quicker. is there anything on these dt466 engines I should be looking at? we have replaced egrs, coolers, intercoolers, injectors, and really haven't found a difference in emmissions. and no, carb doesn't care how much you have to spend to fix it. most trucks are getting cut in 2, taken to mexico and rewelded back together for service down there. any help would be appreciated or any leads to a real knowledgable ford diesel tech with programming experience.
