C5 Corvette A/C Display
Posted to Technical Tips Forum on 7/17/2015 5 Replies

The automatic climate control module on the C5 is prone to a common failure. The symptoms are either an LCD display that is dim on start up and takes several seconds to reach full intensity, a display that is permanently dim, or a display that is completely blank. When the display is blank the controls may continue to operate normally although you cannot see the settings. If you have one these symptoms check the obvious power and ground circuits. You may isolate the problem to the modules internals. Only then do you find that this modules are no longer available and are becoming increasingly difficult to obtain used. A quick google search will net you dozens of places to send your module into for refurbishment. But, you can keep the money for yourself and avoid longer downtime for your customer by tackling this repair yourself. We do these in house regularly and I have put together a step by step on my website. I hope you enjoy and I am open to questions and tips to how to improve the page.

The gist of the repair is this. Remove the module. Open it up by removing the screws at the rear of the module case. Separate the rear circuit board by removing the four screws in the corners. Reflow the solder joints of all the surface mount power supply resistors. They are rectangular resistors marked "241". Reassemble and enjoy. Here is the page with the detailed procedure. You'll need to scroll down some as the first part of the page is directed at potential customers.
