Re: The not so clever tip that can save you bottom
Posted to Technical Tips Forum on 4/28/2014

On occasion what I've had to do at work is take a large piece of writing paper and tape it across the steering wheel , at the four corners , and write in large print , three words , " Do Not Start " , otherwise some of our equipment operators will just jump up in the cab , they carry their own keys , not even check the engine oil as they are supposed to ,and try to fire it up and drive away. The boss gets a little testy when this happens , as the 544H's [John Deere] are known to damage hydraulic lines on the front loader section. The lines take time to come in for replacement and they sometimes sit outside the shop with the lines removed , and the operators often don't even look to see what's wrong , just jump in the cab and drive away. Hydraulic oil is not cheap , and it makes a mess if they fire up with the lines off. Only after they see the note do they get back out of the machine , come in to the shop and ask what 's wrong .
