2003 Chevrolet S10 LS, Engine/Propulsion Waveform
Posted to the Waveform Library on 1/20/2017

Locating the source of a severe vibration in this S10 with the NVH. This vehicle suffered a driveshaft failure when at speed resulting in a violent event at the diff area. The fuel tank shield took a ton of the hit. A used driveshaft was installed at another service facility prior to it arriving at out shop. We inspected the driveline and found that a few of the double cardan joints were stiff so we had the driveline rebuilt and balanced. After we installed the driveshaft we noticed that the lower speed vibrations were gone but a high speed vibration persisted. This is when we applied the NVH tool for analysis. What we found is that the companion flange is bent sending the driveshaft into an orbit.
