AUTO INDUSTRY'S MOST WELL RESPECTED TO
LEAD SEMINARS AT iATN 2002 CONVENTION

Brea, CA — �The International Automotive Technicians Network (iATN) 2002 Convention will feature seminar presentations by some of the most well respected individuals in the automotive industry. Technical seminars will be led by Randy Bernklau, B.C. Automotive Services; Jim Linder, Linder Technical Services; Jonathan Riggle, iATN; Tom Roberts, Autonerdz; Mac VandenBrink, Dynamic Auto Test Engineering Corp.; Bob Schrader, Bridge Analyzers, Inc.; Mario Jaime, Toyota; and Paul Baltusis, Ford Motor Company. John Peake, Peake Performance Inc., and George Witt, George Witt Service, Inc., will teach management seminars. In addition, Bob Cerullo, automotive technician, service manager and MOTOR Magazine columnist, will be the keynote speaker at the closing iATN reception and dinner. The Saturday evening dinner will be hosted by driveability expert Mark Warren of Ease Diagnostics.

The 2002 Convention will be held Sept. 27-29, at the West Coast Anaheim Hotel, Anaheim, Calif. The convention, co-sponsored by ASE and NAPA, routinely sells out and participants are encouraged to register early. All attendees must register online at: http://members.iatn.net/meetings/fall2002.

The convention will open on Sept. 27th with technical and management sessions. Linder will lead a course on "Fuel Injection Service," covering the latest fuel supply systems, fuel pumps, fuel pump testing, pressure regulation, fuel injectors, fuel injector strategies, injector controls, operation confirmation, total fuel system testing and on-car service.

"Selections From The Nerd Series," presented by Roberts, will focus on a lab scope strategy and technique, drawing from the many hours of presentations used in The Nerd Series.

Rounding out the morning sessions will be "Innovation Integration or 'Getting New Stuff Started!'" presented by Peake. The course will teach the process for successfully implementing change, from paperwork in the office to work flow through the shop.

A "TechNight Live: iATN West Coast Diagnostic Challenge," hosted by Riggle, will be held the afternoon of the 27th. This interactive, multimedia, speaker-led event will present actual vehicle repair orders. The audience will be encouraged to determine the most efficient path to the solutions.

Technical and management seminars will continue on Sept. 28th. "Diagnostic Direction: Getting Your Bearings in a Sea of Data," presented by Bernklau, will cover an approach to choosing your diagnostic direction, such as when to use a scanner, scope or 4-gas, and what PIDs are important. This class will focus on OBD-II vehicle applications, including Ford, GM, Chrysler and Toyota.

"Exploring Scope Pattern Interpretations," presented by VandenBrink, will start with a refresher on the basic highlights of secondary scope pattern interpretation. The second part of the course will focus on primary analysis.

Baltusis will present "Vehicle Networks, Scan Tools and Multiplexing," a class that will examine vehicle communication networks in general, but concentrate on how scan tools communicate with vehicle control modules. The new CAN protocol will be discussed extensively in this course.

"Survival Skills for the Service Advisor," led by Witt, will cover different, highly relevant parts of a service advisor's job.

Jaime will lead the afternoon's technical session with a presentation on the Toyota Prius hybrid technology. Schrader will present "Lambda Calculation from Exhaust Gas Measurements," a course that will discuss the formula that has become one of the international standard methods for calculating Lambda from exhaust gas values.
