ASE - National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence

The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is proud to be a sponsor of the International Automotive Technicians' Network (iATN). ASE was founded in 1972 as an independent, non-profit organization with a single mission: To improve the quality of automotive service and repair through the voluntary testing and certification of automotive professionals.

The ASE program grew from a series of four automobile tests to a comprehensive offering of more than forty exams in various specialty areas: Automobile/Light Truck, Collision Repair, Medium/Heavy Truck, Truck Equipment, School & Transit Bus, and Auto and Truck Parts.

Test questions focus on real-world diagnostic and repair problems, not theory. Upon passing at least one exam and accruing a minimum of two years’ relevant work experience, you earn ASE certification. Certification, however, is not for life. To remain certified, you must successfully retest every five years.

ASE is transitioning to an all-computer format for its certification exams. ASE will administer its last written exams on November 10th, 15th and 17th, 2011. Both telephone and online registration for the written exams opens September 1st and runs through September 30th, which is the registration deadline.

Beginning in 2012, ASE exclusively offers certification tests in a Computer-Based Testing (CBT) format. CBT sessions will take place in January/February, April/May, July/August, and October/November of 2012. For test availability and registration details, visit www.ASE.com.
